We are delighted to announce the handover of the Moerā Community Library and Neighbourhood Hub—a project that showcases not only our expertise in diverse construction methods but also our commitment to creating spaces that truly matter.

This remarkable facility is more than just a building; the suburb of Moerā is of historic significance to the local Iwi, a central gathering place for generations. It's a privilege for us at Niche to build the latest iteration of this space where the community can continue to connect, learn, and celebrate. This project showcases the complementary way Niche Modular and Niche Commercial work together combining volumetric, modern construction methods with in-situ site works. Combining construction techniques in this way ensures efficiency while allowing the flexibility required to meet the needs of the people it serves. We brought a bespoke architectural design to life, without compromising on the functionality and quality of the building.

We’re especially proud of the collaboration with Moerā Community representatives, Hutt City Council, Studio One and Designgroup Stapleton Elliott to incorporate culturally significant elements, ensuring the finished hub reflects the community's heritage and unique identity. This project has provided a canvas for Niche to really flex our capabilities, the design called for a number of specialty features - such as;

·       Hardwood front step and podium seating – featuring engraved risers referencing haumi joints used in canoe-building that symbolises different pieces coming together to form a stronger unified whole

·       Huge double wide sliding doors – a size supported by our unique chassis design

·       Custom decorative eyebrow that wraps the entire building

·       Specialty concrete works, including the shaped hardstand, and huge accessibility ramp.

·       Bespoke engraving on the East Wall cladding -incorporating Raperape, a connecting form, and Puhoro, symbolising energy and movement.

Many of these elements were chosen to embody the guardianship of the mauri, these patterns reflect the heritage of the area and the historical richness. They also symbolise new beginnings and community growth that this space will support.

This project is a testament to what can be achieved through teamwork and shared vision, by utilising multiple modern methods of construction. Our unique capabilities significantly shortened the construction timeframe, minimising the time that the community was without this space. Niche Modular’s volumetric construction style eliminates weather related delays and increases material efficiencies, while Niche Commercial was able to ensure that once landed the landscape design met the design needs of the community.
